Or is it just something we’ve been conditioned to believe? When you examine history, the truth is often a lot messier. Ancient cultures often practiced polygamy. Some societies encouraged multiple partners as a means of survival, wealth accumulation, or as a matter of tradition. Even today, some cultures view polygamy as completely normal, while others call it a sin. Meanwhile, modern Western society preaches “soulmates” but is drowning in divorce rates, infidelity, and sneaky side relationships. So here’s the real question: if monogamy is “natural,” why is it so hard for so many people to sustain?
